Aad Guray Nameh – Mantra for Divine Protection

by | Jan 24, 2023 | Kundalini Yoga, Mantra, Practical Spirituality, Spirit, Spirituality | 0 comments

Mantra and chanting are both existential pillars of the Kundalini yoga tradition. However, my own personal and professional experience has shown me that these are exactly the parts that new yogis struggle to embrace most. If this is you, allow me to change your mind: What if I told you that you could call in divine support and protection through the simple act of chanting mantra? Aad Guray Nameh has precisely that effect.

Aad Guray Nameh Title

Ever since being introduced to mantra through Kundalini Yoga all those years ago, I have only grown more and more fond of them. Whether it’s while I work, when in the car, or at night when I’m sleeping, those sacred sounds long have a permanent place in my everyday life – on and off the yoga mat. Hearing them over and over again on repeat allows me to receive them with every aspect of my being – spiritually, mentally, and physically.

Aad Guray Nameh – Move forward in certainty & trust

This month, I want to introduce you to another miracle mantra. The Mangala Charan Mantra Aad Guray Nameh calls upon the universal energy to surround you with a field of white protective light. Chant this mantra whenever you feel like you could use some extra protection and access its potent energy within just a few repetitions.

Besides offering protection, Aad Guray Nameh is also used to clear any doubt and open you up to guidance from your highest self. As part of the Sukhmani Sahib, a sacred prayer whose title translates to “Consoler of the Mind,” Aad Guray Nameh helps invoke clarity and deep trust in your path within your mind. Instead of holding yourself back, you are able to move forward knowing you are safe, sound, and protected to live out your highest destiny.

Aad Guray Nameh – A mantra for the aura

Aad Guray Nameh is also one of the mantras of the aura chakra. By creating an additional energetic layer of protection around your electromagnetic field, this mantra amplifies your aura and helps it do its job – to protect and project.

Whether you’re looking to attract abundance and opportunity or keep negative energies away, Aad Guray Nameh is perfect to use in either of those situations. In the Kundalini Yoga tradition, it is commonly chanted three times at the beginning of a lesson directly after opening the space with the Adi Mantra.

Personally, I love incorporating Aad Guray Nameh into my morning practice for that extra bit of energetic support throughout the day. Another great application of Aad Guray Nameh is right before or while you’re driving for divine protection on your journey.

And since the aura represents the seventh spiritual body in the Kundalini Yoga tradition, this mantra is also perfect as a companion for all of 2023, according to the numerology of the 7 Universal Year.

When you cannot be protected, this mantra shall protect you. When things stop, and won’t move, this makes them move in your direction. – Yogi Bhajan

Aad Guray Nameh – Lyrics & translation

When listening to or chanting mantra, the exact meaning of the words isn’t as important as the intention you bring to the practice. Each mantra carries its own potent and beautiful energy that becomes available to you through chanting or listening whether you understand it or not. Nevertheless, being aware of the meaning of a mantra can serve as an entry point for even deeper understanding and a more devotional practice. You can find the Aad Guray Nameh mantra in Gumurkhi as well as its English translation below.

Aad Guray Nameh Mantra

The mantra:

Aad Guray Nameh

Jugaad Guray Nameh

Sat Guray Nameh

Siri Gurdayvay Nameh

The translation:

I bow to the primal wisdom.

I bow to the wisdom true through the ages.

I bow to the true wisdom.

I bow to the great unseen wisdom.
